The beach has a long stretch of golden sand and gentle waves, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, with plenty of surf schools and beachfront cafes nearby. It’s a great place to enjoy the ocean, watch the sunset, and experience the true coastal vibe of Sri Lanka. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a super surfing spot!

Lovely huge beach, with ideal waves for surfing. We couldn’t believe how well looked after it was, no trash or anything! Every morning there will loads of surfers in the sea, but it never feels too crowded. There are LOTS of surfing schools ready to offer you classes so be prepared to get asked a lot as you walk along the beach. A great Bay Area though! For crystal clear waters go to Mirissa but for surfing and a generally chill vibe, come to this place!

One of the best beaches for beginner surfing. The sand and waves are perfect for it. Super clean and not a lot of people in the morning hours. It’s calm as there is no party scene or cafés on the beach. There are some of the best properties and resorts on Weligama beach. Can’t wait to come back for more surfing lessons soon.

The best spot for surfing, reliable waves everyday, beginner friendly, we had a lot of fun! Go aaaaaalll the way to the back, the waves are the same but less/no people. The main area is packed with people, see video 😅 I give 3 stars because the beach is just dirty in some places. When raining, there are few small "rivers" taking the trash and who knows what from the city directly to the ocean 🤢 also the beach is sometimes just full of trash and people are just laying on the sunbeds next to it. If you are not interested in surfing, just swimming and chilling, find a different beach (Mirissa was kind of nice for that). If you surf, shower afterwards.
