One of the most fascinating historical sites in Anuradhapura. The temple is beautifully built into the solid rock and holds so much rich Sri Lankan history. The stone carvings—like the elephants at the pond and the Royal Family—are masterpieces. There’s also a great little museum on-site with well-preserved artifacts. ​Tip: It's totally worth the short climb to the top of the rock for the amazing views over the area. Just remember to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, as it is a sacred site. A must-visit!
