Bahirawakanda Buddha Statue is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Kandy. Sitting high on a hill, the massive white Buddha statue can be seen from many parts of the city — and once you reach the top, the panoramic view over Kandy is simply breathtaking. The atmosphere here is calm and peaceful. Compared to other busy attractions in Kandy, this place feels more relaxed and less crowded. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy quiet moments, take beautiful photos, and admire the surrounding mountains and Kandy Lake from above. There is a small entrance fee for foreigners, and you need to climb a short staircase to reach the statue. Dress modestly, as it is a religious site. I recommend visiting in the late afternoon for cooler weather and soft golden light — ideal for photography. A must-visit place in Kandy if you love viewpoints, peaceful surroundings, and spiritual landmarks. Highly recommended! 🇱🇰✨

There is an entrance fee, it's not free to enter as it is stated in other comments (not expensive but still good to know). You have to take off your shoes but the place is quite dirty to go around. Nice view.

Wow! Surprised this temple did not show up on google when I googled must visit places in Kandy!! I saw it by accident from far at a cafe and asked the tuktuk driver. Price 1$ (300 Sri lanka money) entrence and you can borrow a sarong for free if you are wearing shorts. The view was amazing! Super nice temple and not too many tourists there. A must visit if you ask me!

A really cool place to go. A gorgeous temple that overlooks Kandy. The sunrise is probably better than subset here as Kandy city is more east here. 300 or 500 LKR to enter, I don’t really remember which.

Beautiful massive Statue depicting Buddha is sadly spoilt by scamming people into donating. Men working there will shout you over and put a bracelet around your wrist then demand a large donation. Completely spoils the experience and nature of the place. It’s supposedly a free attraction and has a nice view over the city from the top. Sadly 1 star as people will read this comment more than if it was a 2 :)
