Kalutara Bodhiya is one of the most important Buddhist sacred sites in Sri Lanka. The peaceful atmosphere, the sacred Bodhi tree, and the white Chaitya create a very spiritual environment. The area is clean, There is a parking place also for your conveniently and there are some small shops that you can buy flowers and other needed things Kalu river is the one surrounded this area and it gives more beautiful appearance. well organized, and suitable for meditation and worship. Even though it is close to the main road, the place feels calm and serene once inside. Highly recommended for devotees and visitors seeking spiritual peace

An iconic, majestic white stupa (pagoda) located on the banks of the Kalu River, right at the northern entrance to Kalutara city. It is famous for being one of the world's few hollow Buddhist stupas, allowing visitors to walk inside its vast dome. The site is a highly venerated place of worship, located directly opposite the sacred Kalutara Bodhiya (Bo Tree). The Bo tree is believed to be a direct sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, which itself originated from the tree under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. The stupa and Bo tree create a powerful spiritual landmark at the entrance to Kalutara. Many travelers stop here to seek blessings for a safe journey. A must-see landmark in the region.

The stupa itself is beautiful and impressive, and the fact that it is located so close to the river adds to the charm and uniqueness of the site. One thing I really appreciated was how organized everything was. There are clear pathways, proper places to offer flowers, and volunteers who help guide visitors respectfully. Even when the crowd gets a little busy, it still manages to maintain a peaceful ambiance. The large Bo tree area is especially calming, with the soft sound of the wind and bells creating a soothing spiritual feeling. Parking is generally convenient, and there are small shops nearby where you can buy flowers and other offerings at reasonable prices. I also noticed that the environment is kept clean, which makes the overall experience even better. Whether you are visiting for religious purposes or just to enjoy a bit of quiet time, Kalutara Bodhiya is definitely worth the stop. It’s a place that gives you both mental peace and a beautiful cultural experience.
