The park was large and peaceful, full of different birds, crows, and squirrels. It was peaceful to walk there. There were also some elephants and horses kept at the end of the park, but I wasn't happy to see them at all because they were all chained to their feet and the horses were in the sun and had no shade. Overall, I think this is against animal welfare and animals belong in nature.

Small well maintained park in the heart of Colombo providing an attractive location for an early morning jog. External circumference is approximately 1.5 km so be prepared to run a number of laps and cross park pathways if you wish to attain a reasonable distance. Easily and cheaply reached by tuk tuk so no need to run along busy access roads. Also pleasant to visit during day with a number of statues providing good photo backdrops.

Best park if you are visiting with your family members. Children will have a good time for sure. Morning and Evening are the best. Day time is kind of hot even though there are so many trees. There are tracks which you can ride bikes or skate boards. There is a place to rent bikes in side the park. You can also enjoy some boat rides too. There is a paddling boat service. Possibly 10 boats can enjoy the rides on that lake because its sort of small. Park has its own specialized place just for children.it has swings and slides etc. If you stay near to lake view you can see so many types of birds. Beware of crows in of case planning a picnic. Lot of crows are flying around and as soon as they see you eating even a snack ,they are paying a visit for sure. These crows are really annoying . Other problem is the people who ask for money. Its your choice to help them or not. You can find lot of vendors who sell pineapple slices, Corn ice-creams (Rs.100/=) and many more. wash Room facilities are available . I recommend to use the one near to the main entrance (Rs.20/=) Except for Wrecked benches and crows it was an awesome experience. entry is 100% free.

The biggest/main park in Sri Lanka Colombo this is a lovely place to walk around and spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Some of the amenities (namely toilets) need some more work to get to a higher quality standard, especially in cleanliness, however they are passable enough for use. A pretty nice kids play area and a lot of space to wander around makes this park a lovely little reprieve into nature. Be Aware: I was approached by a friendly and charasmatic man who claimed to be a grounds keeper and 'botanical master' at the park, even going so far as to show me his ID card. He took me around showing me various plants, taking me to various good spots for pictures and overall gave me quite a wonderful tour albeit simple around the park. In the end he wanted money, I felt happy to give him some for his time and tour guiding efforts, however he kept demanding 'more, more' which I found unreasonable. Upon reflection i think this man was a FORMER garden employee who has turned into a bit of an unofficial tour guide and huckster in the park.. Just something to be aware of when visiting and being approached by somehow offering to show you around the park.
