Fantastic, non - commercial place, the temple is very clean, open for public, not too many tourists, temple is popular for local people. Very easy access, good directions by Google map, parking spots avaliable for tourists, free of charge. In front of the temple is small market with local people selling different staff. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

I recently visited Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara, and it was a truly peaceful and spiritual experience. The ancient stupa, calm atmosphere, and beautiful surroundings make this temple one of the most sacred and impressive places in Sri Lanka. The temple is very well maintained, and visiting during the morning gives an especially relaxing feeling. A wonderful place for worship, meditation, and experiencing Sri Lankan Buddhist heritage. Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara is a beautiful and peaceful temple that is absolutely worth a visit when in Tissa. The setting is calm and spiritual, and the large white stupa is truly impressive, especially when you see it up close. A very kind man, who seemed to be a priest or temple caretaker, gave us flowers to offer at the temple. It was a really touching gesture and made the visit feel more meaningful and welcoming. The whole atmosphere felt serene and respectful, with locals quietly worshipping and walking around the grounds. The temple complex is spacious and well kept, and you can walk around the stupa and surrounding areas while taking in the peaceful surroundings. It is also a great spot to learn a bit about local Buddhist traditions and history, as this is one of the most important religious sites in the area, with roots going back over 2,000 years. Overall, a calm, culturally rich experience and a lovely stop while exploring Tissamaharama.
